Insider tips for visiting Ohio's herb capital.
Post by Rachel Flenner, Events Assistant with the Gahanna OH Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Local dress boutique Be Social will take center stage on Sunday, March 6 during the 2016 Arnold Sports Festival as sponsor of the inaugural Miss Arnold Teen Fitness Pageant. This exciting new pageant is being directed by Gahanna’s own Kylee Miller, owner of Be Social Dress Boutique.
This is her first time taking on an event of this size and, for many, it could seem like a daunting event. But when Arnold Schwarzenegger asks you to put together something, what do you say? Yes, of course! This pageant is certainly going to be a unique event. It has to be in order for them to find a one-of-a-kind young lady to be the winner. Scouting the local communities, the committee has selected 18 competitors ranging from ages 14-to-18 years old.
These young women will compete in several different categories over 2 days for the title of Miss Arnold Teen Fitness. They will be judged in categories including interview, fitness, talent and evening gown. The winner must not only be a fitness and beauty champion, but an advocate for all girls. “We’re seeking a perfectly balanced winner,” Kylee said. “She must be a young woman who can empower girls of all ages in fitness and talent, through her example.”
The winner of the pageant will receive $6,000, a plethora of one-of-a-kind gift items and the honor of being crowned by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Additionally, awards will be presented for Most Photogenic, Best Talent, Best Gown, etc. While the contestants are comprised of a group of All Star Girls, the judges are an impressive group of talented individuals ready to crown the first-ever Miss Arnold Teen Fitness. Judges include Olympic medalist Apollo Ono. Columbus’s own Monica Day will be one of the Hosts of the event.
This pageant is something you don’t want to miss during “The Arnold.” It will take place beginning at 12 noon on Sunday, March 6 in the Ohio Expo, Bricker Building. Arrive before the event and stop by the BE Social Dress Boutique booth located in the aisle near the stage.
Follow along with the pageant on Facebook at Miss Arnold Teen Fitness Pageant, on Instagram at @Arnoldpageant, on Twitter @Arnoldpageant and check out the new Snapchat story that day featuring all the events the Arnold has to offer.
This pageant is certainly going to be an amazing day for the contestants and for Gahanna’s own Be Social and Kylee Miller. So come on out and support Gahanna at the Arnold Sports Festival!

One of the Gahanna OH Convention & Visitors Bureau’s most beloved seasonal traditions is the annual Holiday Character Breakfast. The 2015 event, sponsored by KEMBA Financial Credit Union, will be presented this Saturday, December 12 at a NEW location AND will include some fun new additions including a Secret Santa Marketplace for little ones to shop, and a mini-performance of Rapunzel by the amazing Columbus Children’s Theatre!
CenterPoint Church (620 McCutcheon Rd. Gahanna 43230) will serve as the location for the 2015 Breakfast, providing expanded event space and plenty of free parking. The event also will feature make-it-and-take-it holiday crafts, face painting, storytelling with the Columbus Metropolitan Library staff, a special meet-and-greet with holiday characters and the ALWAYS popular, catch-all-you-can-eat-pancake breakfast.
To create the BEST experience possible for families, 4 seatings are offered—one every 45 minutes, at the following times: 8:30 am, 9:15 am (SOLD-OUT), 10am, and 10:45 am. Seating is limited and sells out quickly. Be sure to get your tickets in advance and SAVE! Early bird tickets will be $12/Adult (ages 12 + up); $10/Child (ages 3-11) and children ages 2 and under are free. Tickets at the door will be $15/Adult ; $13/Child.
As part of the holiday tradition (and so as not to compete with our friends at Gahanna Parks & Recreation), we encourage families who attend the Holiday Character Breakfast to go visit Santa at the Ohio Herb Education Center (110 Mill St.) following our Breakfast. Since Santa is busy checking his list (twice) while meeting with little ones at the Herb Center in Gahanna, we don’t ask him to try to be in two places at once. But the Breakfast will be filled with Santa’s elves and costumed friends, representing the North Pole with an abundance of smiles and hugs.
Don’t forget to bring a toy donation! The Gahanna Jaycees will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys for help support the US Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots Program! (Cash donations also will be accepted.) All donations will go to underprivileged children in Central Ohio.
Purchase tickets online NOW to secure your spot or call the Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau, 614/418-9114.
We’re just hours away from Gahanna’s largest annual holiday event … the 2015 Visit Gahanna Holiday Lights Celebration! (Yay!) The event will be held from 3-7:30 pm Sunday, November 22. The Gahanna OH Convention & Visitors Bureau team (who put on this event each year) is beyond excited about this year’s celebration and some exciting new changes—inspired by feedback we received from visitors in past years.
Traditionally, Holiday Lights has been a 30-minute parade that lined the streets of Gahanna’s Creekside District with shivering visitors on cold curbs who packed up and headed home right after the parade ended. This year, the event will offer 4 ½ hours of activities, music, food and FREE family fun in sort of a “deconstructed parade” format. All of the elements previously included in the parade will be there … along with opportunities to get “up close and personal” with parade floats and oodles of hands-on activities to enhance the visitor experience! To plan YOUR Holiday Lights adventure, download the Map & Activity Listing guide fromwww.VisitGahanna.com in advance. You also can pick up a print copy beforehand from participating businesses, or get a map on Sunday from one of our many wandering ambassadors.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before you attend the event …
Best of all, activities at the 2015 @VisitGahanna Holiday Lights Celebration are FREE! To learn more, download the Holiday Lights Event Map, check outVisitGahanna.com, follow @VisitGahanna on Facebookor call 614/418-9114! See ya Sunday!
